Dermatitis atópica se han asociado a tumores y cáncer de piel

Dos tipos de ungüento indicados para tratar el eczema o dermatitis atópica se han asociado a tumores y cáncer de piel. Se trata de cremas que contienen  los productos pimecrolimus y tacrolimus.

En Chile, éstas se comercializan con los nombres de Elidel (pimecrolimus), Cromidin y T-Inmun (tacrolimus) y están indicadas para adultos y niños mayores de dos años. Sin embargo, como el eczema tiene mayor prevalencia en la población infantil, los médicos suelen indicar ambas cremas con mayor frecuencia a niños.Etiqueta Negra

El riesgo potencial ha hecho que la FDA -el organismo que regula los fármacos en EE.UU.- anunciara hace unos días que los productos que incorporan ambos compuestos llevarán una "etiqueta negra" advirtiendo sobre el posible riesgo de cáncer. Ese tipo de etiqueta es la advertencia sanitaria más seria que impone la FDA a los fármacos.

Evidencia en animales

Aunque no se ha establecido una relación directa entre dichos ungüentos y el cáncer, la advertencia se basa en estudios en animales y en informes de un pequeño número de usuarios de las cremas que han reportado cáncer de piel y linfomas.

Riesgo es incierto

Un informe emanado el año pasado por la FDA indicaba que en el caso de ambos compuestos, "los estudios en humanos tomarían diez o más años para determinar si su uso está asociado al cáncer. En el intertanto, el riesgo es incierto, y la FDA aconseja emplearlos en pacientes sólo después de que otros tratamientos no hayan dado resultados o no sean tolerados". Esta última advertencia también se incluirá en el nuevo etiquetado.

Europa lo esta evaluando

En Europa, en tanto, ambos fármacos están bajo la mira del Comité de Evaluación de la Agencia Europea del Medicamento (EMEA).
